Xenokleides (Athens)

Xenokleides ( Greek Ξενοκλείδης Xenokleídēs ) was an ancient poet of the 4th century BC. Chr. In Athens have survived from which no works. He was one of the lovers of the hetaera Neaira .

When he was in 369 BC BC. Contradicted the request of the Callistratus to support Sparta against Thebes , he was unjustifiably accused of not having participated in the campaign, although he was exempted from it as a leaseholder of the grain tariffs. Nevertheless he was convicted and declared dishonorable ( atimos ). He then went into exile in Macedonia , which he had to leave again on the instructions of Philip II . 342 BC BC he returned to Athens. His dishonor persisted during the trial of Neaira.
