Xian Hui

Xian Hui (Chinese: 咸 辉; Xiao'erjing: ﺷِﯿًﺎ ﺧُﻮِ; born March 1958 in Dingxi , Gansu Province ) is a Chinese politician belonging to the Hui ethnic minority . Since July 2016 she has been the chairwoman ( governor ) of the Ningxia Autonomous Region .

Life

Xian Hui was born in March 1958 in Dingxi Prefecture, Gansu Province. During the Cultural Revolution , she was one of the young people who were sent to rural areas to do manual labor there. Between 1978 and 1981, she joined one of the first groups of students to be admitted to post-secondary education after the Cultural Revolution and studied Chinese literature at Central Nationalities University and Lanzhou University . After graduation, she returned to her home province and initially worked in the central division of the United Labor Front of the province.

In 2003, Xian was appointed deputy head of the Gansu Communist Party Organization Department. In March 2007, Xian was appointed vice governor. She was appointed to the Provincial Party's Standing Committee in April 2012. In May 2015, she became Lieutenant Governor; She served until July 2016.

On July 3, 2016, Xian was appointed chairman of Ningxia, a region bordering Gansu. Xian's rise to the office of chairman was the only known case in the history of the People's Republic in which one woman took over the office of another woman in a leading provincial party or government position. She was confirmed as chairwoman of the regional people's congress on September 19, 2016.
