Barbara Jakubeit
Barbara Jakubeit (* 1945 in Konstanz ) is a German architect , university professor and manager .
Life and work
Barbara Jakubeit studied architecture at the Technical University of Karlsruhe and graduated with a diploma in 1971 at the chair of Egon Eiermann, who died the year before . Then she worked as a freelance architect in Karlsruhe and in the state building administration of Baden-Württemberg. The new building for the regional court and district court of Baden-Baden , completed in 1980, was awarded a main prize of the KS Architecture Prize 1980 and is a listed building . In the 1980s she directed the reconstruction of Gottesaue Palace as the seat of the Karlsruhe University of Music . She added modern materials to the parts of the renaissance building that had not been preserved, which was destroyed in the Second World War.
From 1990, Jakubeit, as President of the Federal Building Directorate, was responsible for the planning of the federal buildings required after reunification and, among other things, supervised the competitions for the Federal Chancellery and the renovation of the Reichstag in Berlin . After the conflict over the flood damage at the Schürmann building in Bonn , she accepted the position of professor for design and interior design at the TU Darmstadt in 1994 . In 1996, she changed to the office of Senate Building Director of Berlin, which she held until 2000, as the successor to Hans Stimmann . From May 2000 to October 2005 she was a member of the management board of Flughafen Frankfurt / Main AG , where she was initially responsible for the planned expansion of the airport and from 2002 for real estate development.
On November 16, 2001 she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
