Xian Zhang

Xian Zhang (* 1973 in Dandong , China ) is a Chinese conductor .

Life

Xian Zhang is Chief Conductor of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor of the BBC National Orchestra & Chorus of Wales . She made her debut as a conductor with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra in 2005 and has since been conducting internationally renowned orchestras worldwide. Her engagements led her to the London Symphony Orchestra , the Concertgebouw Orchestra , the Los Angeles Philharmonic , the San Francisco Symphony and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra .

She also works regularly with orchestras from her home country, such as the Chinese National Theater Orchestra , the Chinese Philharmonic, and the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra . She also performs works by contemporary Chinese composers.

For the next generation, she is the artistic director and conductor of the National Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands (2010–15), the Orchestra Giovanile Italiana and the European Union Youth Orchestra .
