The Turpay district is located in the Grau Province in the Apurímac region in the central south of Peru . The district was established on February 28, 1958. It extends over an area of ​​51 km². The 2017 census counted 667 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 934, in 2007 it was 777. The district administration is located in the 3440  m high village of Turpay with 606 inhabitants (as of 2017). Turpay is 16 km southeast of the provincial capital Chuquibambilla .

Geographical location

The Turpay district is located in the Andean highlands on the left bank of the north-flowing Río Vilcabamba in the central south of the province of Grau.

The Turpay district borders in the southwest on the Virundo district , in the northwest on the Pataypampa district , in the northeast on the San Antonio district , in the east on the Mamara district and in the southeast on the Oropesa district ( Antabamba province ).
