The district of Pataypampa is located in the province of Grau in the Apurímac region in the central south of Peru . The district was established on December 27, 1961. It extends over an area of ​​146 km². The 2017 census counted 838 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1012, in 2007 it was 1022. The district administration is located in the 3952  m high village of Pataypampa with 206 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pataypampa is about 9 km south-southeast of the provincial capital Chuquibambilla .

Geographical location

The district of Pataypampa is located in the Andean highlands in the southwest of the province of Grau.

The district of Pataypampa is bordered in the southwest by the districts of Huaquirca and Sabaino (both in the province of Antabamba ), in the northwest by the district of Chuquibambilla , in the northeast by the districts of Santa Rosa , San Antonio and Turpay and in the southeast by the district of Virundo .
