The Curpahuasi district is located in the Grau Province in the Apurímac region in the central south of Peru . The district was established on November 24, 1955. It has an area of 310 km². The 2017 census counted 2043 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2657, in 2007 it was 2337. The district administration is located in the 3438 m high village of Curpahuasi with 429 inhabitants (as of 2017). Curpahuasi is 6 km northeast of the provincial capital Chuquibambilla .
Geographical location
The Curpahuasi district is located in the Andean highlands in the northwest of the Gray Province. The rivers Río Curpahuasi and Río Vilcabamba limit the district to the south and southeast.
The Curpahuasi district borders on the Chuquibambilla district in the southwest, the Lambrama district ( Abancay province ) in the northwest, the Gamarra district in the northeast and the Huayllati , Progreso , Curasco , Micaela Bastidas and Vilcabamba districts in the southeast .
