Templo San Miguel de Mamara

The district of Mamara is located in the province of Grau in the Apurímac region in the central south of Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of ​​62.7 km². The 2017 census counted 904 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1007, in 2007 it was 938. The district administration is located in the 3590  m high village of Mamara with 554 inhabitants (as of 2017). Mamara is located about 19 km south-southeast of the provincial capital Chuquibambilla .

Geographical location

The district of Mamara is located in the Andean highlands on the right bank of the northwest flowing Río Vilcabamba (in the upper reaches of the Río Oropesa) in the northeast of the province of Grau.

The Mamara district borders on the Turpay district in the west, the San Antonio district in the northwest, the Micaela Bastidas district in the northeast and the Oropesa district ( Antabamba province ) in the south .
