The district of Chuquibambilla is located in the province of Grau in the Apurímac region in the central south of Peru . The district was established on June 21, 1825. It has an area of ​​425 km². The 2017 census counted 5314 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 6461, in 2007 it was 5490. The district administration is located in the provincial capital of Chuquibambilla, 3320  m high, with 3191 inhabitants (as of 2017).

Geographical location

The Chuquibambilla district is located in the Andean highlands in the northwest of the province of Grau. The Río Chuquibambilla, left tributary of the Río Vilcabamba , drains the area to the northeast.

The district of Chuquibambilla borders in the southwest with the districts Sabaino and Pachaconas (both in the province of Antabamba ), in the northwest with the districts Circa and Lambrama (both in the province Abancay ), in the northeast with the district Curpahuasi , in the east with the districts Vilcabamba and Santa Rosa and in the southeast and south to the district of Pataypampa .
