The district of Pachaconas is located in the province of Antabamba in the Apurímac region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on August 20, 1872. It has an area of ​​229 km². The 2017 census counted 1099 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1154, in 2007 it was 1174. The district administration is located in the 3438  m high village of Pachaconas with 831 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pachaconas is 22 km northwest of the provincial capital Antabamba .

Geographical location

The district of Pachaconas is located in the Andean highlands in the northwest of the province of Antabamba. The Río Pachachaca (also Río Ichuni and Río Antabamba) crosses the district in a north-westerly direction.

The district of Pachaconas borders in the southwest with the district Pocohuanca ( province Aymaraes ), in the northwest with the district El Oro , in the north with the district Circa ( province Abancay ), in the northeast with the district Chuquibambilla ( province Grau ) and in the southeast with the district Sabaino .
