The Huaquirca district is located in the Antabamba Province in the Apurímac region in south-central Peru . The district was established on January 17, 1945. It has an area of 351 km². The 2017 census counted 1909 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1525, in 2007 it was 1463. The district administration is located in the 3480 m high village of Huaquirca with 1154 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huaquirca is located 3 km northwest of the provincial capital Antabamba .
Geographical location
The Huaquirca district is located in the Andean highlands in the central north of the Antabamba province. The Río Pachachaca (also Río Ichuni and Río Antabamba) flows along the southern district boundary to the west.
The district of Huaquirca borders in the southwest with the district Juan Espinoza Medrano , in the west with the district Sabaino , in the north with the district Pataypampa , in the northeast with the district Virundo (the two aforementioned districts are in the province of Grau ), in the east with the Oropesa district and in the south to the Antabamba district .
