The Curasco district is located in the Grau Province in the Apurímac region in the central south of Peru . The district was formed on October 29, 1993 from parts of the Micaela Bastidas district. It extends over an area of ​​136 km². The 2017 census counted 1287 inhabitants. In 2007 the population was 1469. The district administration is located in the 3460  m high village of Curasco with 478 inhabitants (as of 2017). Curasco is 16 km east-northeast of the provincial capital Chuquibambilla .

Geographical location

The Curasco district is located in the Andean highlands on the right bank of the Río Vilcabamba, which flows north-northeast in the central east of the province of Grau.

The Curasco district is bordered on the southwest by the district Micaela Bastidas, in the northwest on the district Curpahuasi , the northeast and the east by the district Progreso and in the extreme southeast of the districts Challhuahuacho ( province Cotabambas ) and Oropesa ( province Antabamba ).
