Xielüe

The Little Crab Lore ( Chinese  蟹 略 , Pinyin Xielüe ) by Gao Sisun (高 似 孙) from what is now Ningbo , Zhejiang Province , China , is one of the most famous Chinese crab monographs and was published around 1180 during the Song Dynasty composed.

The work comprises four volumes ( juan ) and is divided into twelve categories ( men ).

In total, it covers over thirty different shrimp recipes and describes different types of cooking and preparation methods. It also provides quotes about crabs and text examples from various literary sources.

It is an important source for the history of Chinese food and drink culture.

The work is in the Shuofu (说 郛), an extensive series of brush notes (biji) originally compiled by Tao Zongyi towards the end of the Yuan Dynasty , as well as in the Siku quanshu (四库 全书) collection (Complete Writings of the Four Archives) of the Qianlong era.
