The Western Yellow Temple ( Ch . Xīhuáng Sì ), also known as Qīngjìng Huāchéng Sì ( 清净 化城寺 ), is a temple of the Gelug School of Tibetan Buddhism . It is located on Andingmenwai Street in the Chaoyang District of Beijing . It was built in 1651 of the Qing Dynasty . It was the residence of the 5th Dalai Lama of Tibet. Today the temple complex houses a Sino-Tibetan Institute for Buddhism founded in 1987 ( 中国 藏语 系 高级 佛 学院 , Zhongguo Zangyuxi Gaoji Foxueyuan ,English High-level Tibetan Buddhism College ), a college of Tibetan Buddhism.
His Diamond Throne Pagoda called Qingjing Huayu Pagoda ( 清净 化 域 塔 ) has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (5-206) since 2001 .
