Xing Bing

Xing Bing ( Chinese  邢 昺 , Pinyin Xíng Bǐng , W.-G. Hsing Ping ; born 932 ; died 1010 ), zi : Shuming叔 明, was a Confucian scholar and commentator from the time of the Northern Song Dynasty .

life and work

Xing was from Jiyin 濟陰 in Caozhou Prefecture 曹州 (now Cao County ('Caoxian'), Shandong Province ). He was well versed in the classical scripts. He is the author of commentaries on the works Lunyu论语, Xiaojing孝经 and Erya尔雅, which were also used for the creation of the Hanyu da zidian ( HYDZD ). His sub-commentary ( shu ) on the Conversations of Confucius ( Lunyu ) discusses problems of spirit, nature, principle and mandate of Heaven. Xing claimed that heaven had neither a spirit nor a mandate, which negated the idea of ​​heaven personified.
