Xinglong (Wanning)

The Xinglong state farm for overseas Chinese (兴隆 华侨 农场) is located in the Chinese island province of Hainan . It belongs to the administrative area of ​​the independent city of Wanning , from whose center it lies in a west-southwest direction. From an administrative point of view, Xinglong is a so-called " large virtual community " (虚拟 镇), for which the census (2000) counted 31,729 inhabitants.

history

Xinglong was a transit point on the journey from Haikou to Sanya and was primarily used as an overnight stay until the East Express way was built. After political relations between China and neighboring countries in Southeast Asia had deteriorated, over 25,000 Chinese and people of Chinese descent from their home countries (mainly from Indonesia and Malaysia ) were resettled to Xinglong from 1952 onwards . The "Xinglong State Farm for Overseas Chinese" was established there to grow tropical crops such as coffee . Although coffee was not grown there before, it quickly developed into a regional specialty.

tourism

Xinglong is one of the regions of Hainan that is to be expanded for tourism and has several hotels (as of 2009). To do this you apply u. a. the hot sulphurous springs near the town center. The "Tropical Botanical Garden Xinglong", founded in 1957, covers approx. 340,000 m² and presents the local and economically important tropical flora.

Xinglong is located on the G223 expressway in the administrative area of ​​the city of Wanning. The place can be reached by car in 1.5 hours from Haikou Meilan Airport and in one hour from Sanya Phoenix International Airport .

geology

Xinglong is located in a geologically active area. The sulphurous hot springs are evidence of volcanic activity. The following minerals are extracted in Xinglong: anatase , chromite , ilmenite , cassiterite , magnetite , monazite , quartz , rutile , tourmaline and zircon .
