Xosé Manoel Núñez Seixas (born March 15, 1966 in Ourense ) is a Galician historian .

Life

He studied history and contemporary history at the Universities of Santiago de Compostela and Dijon . After completing his doctorate at the European University Institute in December 1992, he was a permanent lecturer (Professor Titular) for Modern History of Europe at the University of Santiago de Compostela (1994–2007). From 2007 he held a chair (catedrático) for Modern History of Europe at the University of Santiago de Compostela. Between October 2012 and September 2017 he was Professor of European History of the 19th and 20th Centuries at LMU .

His research interests are Iberian history of the 20th century, nationalism research from a comparative perspective, Spanish nationalism and European national movements, national symbols and myths, cultural history, history of migration, with a focus on Iberian emigration to Latin America in the 19th and 20th centuries, and new military history and the cultural history of war , with special reference to the Spanish Civil War and the Eastern Front in World War II .

He was visiting professor at various European and North and South American universities (Bielefeld, ZZF Potsdam, Verona, Paris X, Paris VII, Mar del Plata, Valparaíso, Stanford, City Univ. Of New York). Since July 2018 he has been Vice-President of the Council of Galician Culture (Consello da Cultura Galega). October 2019 was awarded to him for his book Suspiros de España. El nacionalismo español, 1808–2019 (Barcelona, ​​2018; German updated version: The Moving Nation. The Spanish National Thought, 1808–2019. Hamburg 2019) awarded the Spanish National Prize for Essays .
