The Xtra Monocar was the smaller of the two car models from the British manufacturer Xtra Cars . It came on the market in May 1922.
description
The very simple vehicle was designed by Cuthbert Clarke and resembled a three-wheeled motorcycle sidecar. It had a two-stage friction gear with cork friction linings, which was driven by the motor with a chain. These wheels rotated in a drum that was firmly connected to the individual rear wheel and - depending on which one was engaged - provided the desired drive ratio. The gearbox, which also provided for neutral, was shifted with a lever. There was no reverse gear. The rear wheel with coil springs was suspended from the engine frame. The front wheels were individually suspended from two transverse leaf springs and provided with rack and pinion steering. Only the single rear wheel was braked, the brake shoes acted on the gear drum from outside.
Unlike the larger model Xtra Sociable it was only with a single-cylinder two-stroke engine of Villiers with 270 cc displacement and 2-3.75 PS supplied power.
The vehicle was a single seater with a lightweight plywood body on an ash frame. In addition, an emergency seat was installed behind the driver above the engine. Carbide lamps were used for lighting . The maximum speed was given as 48 km / h.
The original price was initially 99.75 pounds sterling .
Production ended in May 1924. Numbers are not known.
