from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Xuanquanzhi site ( Chinese  悬 泉 置 遗址 , Pinyin Xuánquánzhì yízhǐ ) in Dunhuang in northwest China's Gansu Province is an important archaeological site on the ancient Silk Road .

Xuanquanzhi is known as China's "oldest post office". Among other things, a 2000 year old letter (18 × 8 cm) from the time of the Han dynasty , written on silk, was discovered here, which was originally intended to reach the inland from the border area. Important paper finds from the time of the Western Han Dynasty also come from here.

The Xuanquanzhi site has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (5-123) since 2001 and has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site entitled Silk Roads: the Road Network of the Chang'an Tianshan Corridor since 2014 .
