The Xuriguera dam was the gravity dam of the Pantà de la Xuriguera dam , which was built northwest of Terrassa in Catalonia , Spain in 1902 on the Gaià River . It broke on February 24, 1944 in heavy rain during the night and caused a tidal wave with great destruction in which 6 or 7 people were killed.

The dam had been planned since 1897 and was supposed to supply the city of Terrassa and the local industry with water. The masonry or concrete dam was 42 meters high, 165 meters long and built on rock. The reservoir had a volume of 1.1 million cubic meters. Before the disaster, precipitation of 280 liters per square meter should have fallen. Slipping (slipping) of the foundation is given as the cause of the break in the literature . The ruins of the dam can still be seen today.
