The Gasco Dam ( Presa de El Gasco ) under construction on the Guadarrama River near Galapagar near Madrid in Spain broke on May 14, 1799 .

The stone-built gravity dam was to be built to supply water to a 770 km long canal , the Canal de Murcia, which should extend to the Atlantic Ocean. The decision to build it was made on February 11th, 1785 and construction began in 1788 by the "Real Compañía del Canal de Murcia". The engineer and project manager was Carlos (Charles) Lemaur.

In addition to the Gasco Dam were also the dams Valdeinfierno m³ with a capacity of 29 million and planned Puentes (13 million m³). The Puentes Dam also broke three years later on April 30, 1802.

At the time of the Gasco Dam disaster, the wall was 53 m high; it should reach a total height of 93 m. The storage volume would have been 22.5 million m³. Construction was then abandoned and the ruins are still there today.
