× uchter ́s HOLiC ( Japanese ホ リ ッ ク , horikku ) is an ongoing manga series by the group Clamp , which can be assigned to his - and horror - or mystery genre. The work was also implemented as an anime, light novel and radio play.

action

The boy Kimihiro Watanuki ( 四月 一日 君 尋 ) has the inherited ability to see ghosts and is therefore constantly persecuted by them. One day while on the run from them again, he accidentally hits a wall, whereupon the ghosts disappear. The wall borders the estate of Yuko Ichihara ( 壱 原 侑 子 ), the witch of dimension . There she runs a shop where you can get wishes fulfilled if you are willing to pay a corresponding price. Watanuki also promises to free him from his attraction for ghosts and the ability to see them. For this he has to work in her shop as a “girl for everything”.

So Watanuki enters the service of Yuko and is often involved in supernatural events, some of which endanger his life. He is supported by his schoolmate Shizuka Domeki, who has the ability to exorcise ghosts, but whom Watanuki cannot stand.

In Japan from 2003 to 2011, HOLiC was published in serial chapters in the Manga magazine Young Magazine of the Kōdansha publishing house, in which CLAMP's earlier work Chobits also appeared. The publisher also regularly summarized these sequel chapters in 19 edited volumes.

In German, ×phia eV has been published by Egmont Manga and Anime since November 2004 , and all volumes were published by August 2011. The translation is by Claudia Peter. The manga will continue to be published in the United States, Spain, Portugal, Italy and France, among others.

Anime

On the basis of the manga, the movie, × myself, HOLiC, a Midsummer Night's Dream ( 劇場版 × 16, HOLiC 真 夏 ノ 夜 ノ 夢 , Gekijōban Horikku - Manatsu no Yoru no Yume ) was released in August 2005. In 2006, Production IG produced a 24-part anime television series directed by Tsutomu Mizushima . The character design was created by Kazuchika Kise and the artistic director was Hiromasa Ogura. The series aired April 6 through September 28, 2006 on TBS . From April 3 to June 26, 2008 TBS ran the 2nd season × × × HOLiC: Kei ( xxxHOLiC ◆ 継 ). On February 18, 2009, the first of two parts of an original video animation was released with the title × myself × HOLiC: Shunmuki ( × × × HOLiC 春夢 記 ). The second part followed on June 23, 2009.

The movie was released in Germany together with the Tsubasa movie Tsubasa Chronicle - The Princess of Bird Cage Land on Anime Virtual on DVD. The film was also broadcast on Arte in a dubbed version on August 12, 2008 .

In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the first season of 2008 was released by Anime-Virtual in three DVD boxes with 2 DVDs each. The series has also been translated into English, Spanish, French and Chinese, among others.

The music of the series comes from SENS The opening title is 19sai by Shikao Suga and for the end credits Reason by Fonogenico and Kagerō by BUCK-TICK were used. The episodes of the second season start with Nobody Knows by Shikao Suga, the closing song was delivered by SEAMO feat. AYUSE KOZUE with Honey Honey .

Light novel

On August 1, 2006, was light novel ××× HOLiC: Another Holic Landolt-kan aerosol ( ××× HOLiCアナザーホリックランドルト環エアロゾル, ××× HOLiC: Añaza horikku randoruto-kan earosoru ), written by Ishin Nishio with illustrations published by CLAMP at Kodansha.

Furthermore, two radio plays (drama CDs) were published in 2006 and in 2007 a computer game for the PlayStation 2 called × myself × HOLiC - Watanuki no izayoi sōwa ( × × × × HOLiC ~ 四月 一日 の 十六 夜 草 話 ~ ).

The 13th volume of the manga sold over 450,000 copies in Japan. In April 2009, this band was also number six on the list of the best-selling manga in the United States.

reception

According to Splashcomics' Christel Scheja, the manga offers a dark plot with surprises and suspense. The filigree drawing style of the serious series is based more on Art Nouveau . In some volumes, however, the series also shows cheerful scenes.

The FUNime writes for Anime from simple animations and drawings and imitate the manga the not always successful, try the style. Sound and image are also of a rather low quality. The series lives mainly from its interesting, partly comical, partly serious plot.
