Yüksel Yolcu

Yüksel Yolcu (* 1966 in Igdir , Turkey ) is a Turkish theater director and dramaturge . He is also active as an actor . In 2003 Yolcu received the Brothers Grimm Prize from the State of Berlin .

Live and act

Yüksel Yolcu was born in Turkey and came to Germany as a child. He attended elementary school and high school up to high school in Berlin-Schöneberg . He completed his acting training between 1990 and 1994 at the Berlin University of the Arts . At this time he was already starting to work as an actor at the Berlin Schiller Theater in a number of productions, and later also in the children's theaters carrousel and GRIPS . After studying directing in Paris , the first own productions followed at the theater in 2000, e. B. Chekhov's The Marriage Proposal , Athol Fugard's Hello and Goodbye at the carrousel, Much Ado About Nothing , the Little Prince of Denmark, at the Altenburg-Gera Theater , the horse at night in Braunschweig, Fugards Merhaba and goodbye at the Diyalog TheaterFestes 2000 or Anouilhs Antigone at the Berlin Workshop of Cultures . The acting group "Compagnie Yunus", which he founded, received funding from the Capital Cultural Fund for B. Brecht's Threepenny Opera. Yolcu increasingly staged at the Hans Otto Theater , where he also worked as an actor in the summer theater in 2005 and 2006 (Sebastian in Was ihr wollt ).

For his performance of Nick Wood's Escape Routes at the Otto Theater, Yolcu received the Brothers Grimm Prize of the State of Berlin in 2003, an award to promote children's and youth theater. His staging of Colleen Murphy's Heart Beats Death (2004) received a lot of media attention due to the participation of Katja Riemann , who played the leading role. As a playwright, Yolcu edited the novel Leyla (2007) by Feridun Zaimoglu , and in 2005, together with Paul Brody, developed a “version for the Neukölln opera ” of the Leo Fall opera Die Rose von Stambul (1916). In 2008 Yolcu staged “Schwarzweißlila” by Volker Schmidt in the Grips Theater, followed by works such as “Haram” by Ad de Bond and Ohne Moos nix los by Jörg Isermeyer. In 2011 this play was invited to the renowned Mühlheimer Theatertage. This was followed by the pieces "False" by Lutz Hübner (the piece was nominated for the Ikarus Prize 2014) and the children's piece Schnubbel by Volker Ludwig. Also in 2011, Yolcu staged the play "The Boy with the Suitcase" by Mike Kenny for the Theater der Junge Welt Leipzig.
