Yūji Imamura

Yūji Imamura ( Japanese 今 村 裕 二 , Imamura Yūji ; * around 1945) is a Japanese jazz and fusion musician (drums, percussion, conga, djembe, kalimba).

Yūji Imamura played from the mid-1960s on the Tokyo jazz and fusion scene; first recordings were made in 1967 with Sadao Watanabe ( Jazz Samba , among others with Masabumi Kikuchi and Sadanori Nakamure ). In the following years he played with Shigeharu Mukai , in the Terumasa Hino Quintet ( Live , 1973), Shuko Mizuno / Toshiyuki Miyama and Masaru Imada , as well as with musicians such as Kenji Mori , Hideto Kanai and Takao Uematsu in the formation Tee & Company and with a own quintet (1975). With Nobuyoshi Ino he formed the fusion band Air (album of the same name in 1977), with Hiroshi Murakami , Renkichi Hayashi and Yasuo Shimura . Imamura performed at the 1978 Montreux Jazz Festival with Mari Nakamoto and Tasuya Takahashi's orchestra . From the 1980s he still worked with Hiroshi Fukumura and Michiko Yoshino ; around 2007 he recorded a solo album ( Beat from the Earth with Teruo Goto ). In the field of jazz he was involved in 34 recording sessions between 1967 and 2007.
