Yūsuke Kanamaru

Yūsuke Kanamaru ( Japanese 金丸 雄 介 , Kanamaru Yūsuke ; born September 14, 1979 ) is a former Japanese judoka . In 2001 he was second in the lightweight world championship, the weight class up to 73 kilograms.

Career

The 1.70 m tall Yūsuke Kanamaru won the 2001 Japanese championships. At the East Asian Games in 2001 in Osaka he reached the final and was defeated there by the South Korean Min Sung-ho . Two months after the East Asian Games, the 2001 World Championships were held in Munich . Kanamaru defeated the Algerian Nourredine Yagoubi in the quarter-finals and Min Sung-ho in the semi-finals. In the final he was defeated by the Russian Vitaly Makarov . In 2002 at the Asian Games in Busan Kanamaru reached the final and was defeated by the South Korean Choi Yong-shin . In early 2003 Kanamaru won the Jigoro Kano Cup . He also won the Japanese championships, at the 2003 World Championships in Osaka, he reached seventh place. In November 2003 he was defeated in the final of the Asian Championships in Jeju to the South Korean Lee Won-hee .

In 2005 Kanamaru won a bronze medal at the Asian Championships in Tashkent. In 2007 he won the Tournoi de Paris and the Japanese championships. At the 2007 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, he lost in the quarterfinals to the South Korean Wang Ki-chun . With two wins in the round of hope he reached the battle for bronze, which he won against the Turk Sezer Huysuz . In 2008 Kanamaru won again at the Japanese championships. At the Olympic Games in Beijing he lost to the Iranian Ali Maloumat in his opening fight . After two wins in the hope round, he was eliminated from the Belgian Dirk Van Tichelt and finished in seventh place.
