Yadollah Sharifirad ( listen ? / I PersianAudio file / audio sample [ jædollɑh ʃæɾifiɾɑd ] یدالله شریفی راد; * March 24, 1946 in Taleghan ) is a former Iranian fighter pilot , military attaché and writer . In 1978 he was a pilot of the Golden Crown aerobatic team .

Sharifirad was one of the most successful Iranian F-5 fighter pilots during the First Gulf War . He scored five kills (three confirmed and two suspected kills) of Iraqi fighter jets . These include one Su-22 and four MiG-21 . During an attack on an Iraqi power plant , he was attacked by three Iraqi fighter planes and shot down. He was able to save himself with the ejection seat and was brought back to Iran by Kurdish fighters. A film based on this operation was made in Iran, entitled "The Eagles".

From 1984 to 1987 he was a military attaché in Pakistan. In 1987 he was recalled by the Iranian government and charged with espionage for the United States . After his arrest and one year in prison, he was released. Then Sharifirad managed to escape to Canada .

In 2010 he wrote a book called "Flight of a Patriot". In this book he tells about his life from youth to participation in the First Gulf War, his arrest, prison and torture until immigration to Canada.
