Bauchi (formerly Yakoba ) is the capital of the Nigerian state of the same name . It is located in the center of the African country, on the northeastern edge of the Jos plateau at 616 m above sea level. According to calculations from 2012, Bauchi has 301,284 inhabitants.

First European visitor was Eduard Vogel .

After the imposition of a demonstration ban against the Islamist group Boko Haram , unrest broke out in Bauchi at the end of July 2009 and spread to Yobe , Borno and other regions. At least 200 people were killed in a very short time. In the same state of Bauchi since 2001 Sharia in force.
