Yamamoto Issei

Yamamoto Issei ( Japanese 山 本 一 清 ; born May 27, 1889 in Shiga Prefecture , † January 16, 1959 in Kusatsu , Shiga Prefecture) was a Japanese astronomer.

He was a professor of astronomy at Kyoto University . In 1920 he became the first president of the Astronomical Society he initiated ( 天文 同好 会 , Tenmon Dōkōkai ), which in 1932 was renamed the Oriental Astronomical Association ( 東 亜 天文学 会 , Tōa tenmon kyōkai ). He was director of the Kwasan Observatory in Kyoto .

The crater Yamamoto on the moon and the asteroid (2249) Yamamoto was named in his honor.
