Yang Jiayu

Yang Jiayu (born February 18, 1996 ) is a Chinese athlete who specializes in walking . At the world championships in 2017, she won the gold medal in the 20 km walk .

Career

In 2015 Yang took part in the Student World Games in Gwangju and came in fifth there. She was nominated by the Athletic Association of the People's Republic of China for the 2017 World Athletics Championships in London , where she and her compatriots Wang Na and Lü Xiuzhi started the 20 km walk . This competition ended dramatically: The 2015 silver medalist Lü Xiuzhi was disqualified and Yang Jiayu secured the world title in a personal best ahead of the Mexican María Guadalupe González and the Italian Antonella Palmisano .
