Yang Shou-chung

Yang Shou-chung ( Chinese  楊守 中  /  杨守 中 , Pinyin Yáng Shǒuzhōng , born as Yang Zhenming - 楊振銘  /  杨振铭 , Yáng Zhènmíng ; * 1910 ; † 1985 ) was a Chinese grandmaster of the Yang style - Taijiquan . As the eldest son of Yang Chengfu , he was the main representative of the inner family style of the Yang family after the death of his father.

At the age of eight he began his intensive training with his father and his equally famous uncle Yang Shao-hou in his family's Taijiquan. At the age of 14, Yang Shou-chung became his father's assistant and taught with him. By the age of 19 he was so well known that members of the government hired him as a private tutor. He has also officially taught at many major institutions across China . In 1949, due to the social change, he left his home with his wife Yang Kwok-Yee and emigrated to Hong Kong . Yang taught Taijiquan in Hong Kong until his death in 1985. Yang Shou-chung's three daughters are named:

  • Tai-Yee - 帝 兒  /  帝 儿 , Dì 'er , English Amy ,
  • Ma-Lee - 瑪利  /  玛利 , Mǎlì , English Mary ,
  • Yee-Lee - 伊利 , Yīlì , English Agnes .

Yang Shou-chung's three master students are:

  • Ip Tai Tak - 葉大德  /  叶大德 , Yè Dàdé - also taught Yang-style Taijiquan in Hong Kong, where he died in 2004.
  • Chu Gin-soon - 朱振順  /  朱振顺 , Zhū ​​Zhènshùn - founded the Gin Soon Tai Chi Club in Boston in 1969 with the permission of Yang in order to spread the Yang-style Taijiquan in North America .
  • Chu King-Hung -朱景雄 , Zhū ​​Jǐngxióng - founded the International Tai Chi Chuan Association in the 1970sto preserve and maintain the tradition of Yang-style Taijiquan in Europe .
