It consists of the two natural villages Yangfang (洋 坊) and, south of it, Luobu (罗布).

The administrative village has a good 1000 inhabitants (2016) and has an area of 8.2 km², of which 400 ha of forest, 19 ha of arable land, 2.5 ha of vegetable gardens, 4 ha of orchards and 10 ha of fish ponds. There are 6 large pig farms there which together produce 18,000 animals for slaughter per year. Yangfang is the seat of the residents' committee (居民委员会, Pinyin Jūmín Wěiyuánhuì ) of the Qiujiang street district.

Minxi ground station

In March 1967, three months in front of the headquarters of the Chinese space control network (中国 航天 测控 网, Pinyin Zhōnggúo Hángtiān Cèkòngwǎng ) in Shaanxi , a ground station for orbit tracking of the satellite Dong Fang Hong I, which is currently under development , was installed here as part of the " Project 651 " set up, internally referred to as "Unit 142". The first in command of the station was Lu Shengchen (卢 升 臣). During the time of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms (907–960), Fujian was an independent state, named Min Empire after the Min Jiang , the longest river in the province . To this day "Min" is a common alternative name for Fujian. The term "Minxi" (闽西), ie "West Fujian", describes the area of the prefecture-level cities of Sanming and Longyan . Since Yangfang belongs administratively to Sanming, the station was called "Ground Station Minxi" (闽西 地面 观测 站, Pinyin Mǐnxī Dìmiàn Guāncè Zhàn ) for the external presentation .

Dong Fang Hong I was launched from the Jiuquan Cosmodrome in a south-easterly direction, with an orbit inclination of 68.5 ° to the equator. The scientists had calculated that it would enter orbit over the south of Hunan Province or north of Guangxi . In order to be able to report a successful start to the world and to calculate the orbital elements of the satellite and from then on to be able to predict its appearance over a given point on earth, the exact determination of the orbit entry point was of eminent importance. For this reason, both an optical theodolite and a radar system to measure the distance and angle of the satellite were installed in the Minxi ground station , as well as a Doppler measuring device to determine its speed.
