Sanming ( Chinese 三明 市 , Pinyin Sānmíng Shì ) is a district-free city in the Chinese province of Fujian .
It is in the hinterland, has no access to the sea and borders on the neighboring province of Jiangxi .
history
Sanming was a transition station for the Hakka on their migration from northern China to the south and is therefore also called the cradle of the Hakka . The Shibi community , near the Jiangxi border , is the home of the Hakka people.
Today descendants of historical figures (e.g. Li Shimin , the emperor of the Tang Dynasty ) still live in Sanming.
Zhu Xi , the most important neo-Confucian of the Song Dynasty , was also born here .
