Ningde ( Chinese 宁德 市 , Pinyin Níngdé Shì ) is a district-free city in the Chinese province of Fujian .
Ningde is located north of the provincial capital Fuzhou , borders the neighboring province of Zhejiang and has cross- strait access to the Pacific .
Administrative structure
At the county level, Ningde consists of a city district , six counties and two independent cities. These are:
- Jiaocheng District (蕉城区), 1,537 km², 420,000 inhabitants, city center and seat of the city government;
- District Shouning (寿宁县), km² 1425, 250,000 inhabitants, capital: greater community Aoyang (鳌阳镇);
- Kreis Xiapu (霞浦县), km² 1716, 520,000 inhabitants, capital: Street district Songcheng (松城街道);
- Zherong County (柘荣县), 544 km², 100,000 inhabitants, capital: Shuangcheng Township (双 城镇);
- Pingnan district (屏南 县), 1,485 km², 180,000 inhabitants, main town: Gufeng municipality (古 峰 镇);
- Gutian district (古田 县), 2,377 km², 420,000 inhabitants;
- Zhouning County (周 宁县), 1,047 km², 190,000 inhabitants, capital: Shicheng Township (狮城 镇);
- City of Fu'an (福安 市), 1,795 km², 610,000 inhabitants;
- City of Fuding (福鼎 市), 1,526 km², 560,000 inhabitants.
economy
Sandu Bay is one of the most important ports in Fujian Province. The city of Ningde is - despite its location on the coast - the poorest district-free city of Fujian. In order to improve the situation, the province promotes cooperation between differently developed regions. There is now an economic cooperation between Fuzhou and the Ningde. The nuclear power plant of the same name is currently being built near the city of Ningde .

- Lin Zhenhan 林振翰 (1884–1932): Famous philologist who introduced the planned language Esperanto in China.
- Liu Zhongzao 刘 中 藻 (1605–1649): He brought the Jesuit Martino Martini (1614–1661) to the Ningde district.
- Xie Ao 谢 翱 (1249–1295): A well-known poet who was loyal to the Song Dynasty when it was destroyed by the Mongols.
- Xue Lingzhi 薛 令 之 (683–757): The first verifiable graduate of the top civil servant examination from Fujian Province at the age of 24.

Ningde and the Rhineland-Palatinate cities of Speyer and Worms are twinned .
