Coordinates: 34 ° 58 ' S , 148 ° 54' O Yass Valley is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area is 3,995.3 km² and has about 16,000 inhabitants.
Yass Valley Shire is located in the southeast of the state and borders the Australian Capital Territory around the capital Canberra in the south . The area includes 32 hamlets and villages: Bango, Bellmount Forest, Binalong, Boambolo, Bookham, Bowning, Burrinjuck, Cavan, Dog Trap Crossing, Good Hope, Goondah, Gundaroo, Hall, Illalong Creek, Jeir, Laverstock, Manton, Marchmont, Mullion , Murrumbateman, Nanima, Narrangullen, Springrange, Tangmangaroo, Uriarra, Wallaroo, Wee Jasper, Woolgarlo, Yass and Yass River and parts of Bywong and Sutton. The administrative headquarters of the council is in the city of Yass in the north of the LGA, where around 5,500 people live.

The Yass Valley Council has nine members elected by LGA residents. Yass Valley is not divided into districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
