Yaya Jallow

Alhaji Yaya Jallow or in the spelling Yahya Jallow (* 20th century; † February 23, 2020 in Dakar , Senegal) was a Gambian politician and diplomat .

Life

Jallow was from 1996 deputy secretary general and vice chairman of the United Democratic Party (UDP). In 2000, the ruling Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) party under Yahya Jammeh suspected him of murdering supporters of the ruling party . Jallow and four other opposition leaders such as Ousainou Darboe were arrested and tried to stand trial. The court adjourned several times and referred the case back to the lower court. After all, they were not sentenced. In 2011 he left the party.

In the Adama Barrow government , he was appointed Deputy Executive Secretary in the Permanent Secretariat of Senegal-Gambia .

In February 2020, he was a member of a group attempting to mediate on an official mission in Dakar over a deadlock in the cross-border traffic dispute between the Gambian and Senegalese trade unions. He died of a heart attack on the night of February 23 in Dakar.
