The Yazgulyam language (also Yazgulyami, Iazgulem, Yazgulam) belongs to the southeast subgroup of the Iranian languages and is spoken by around 9,000 people along the Yazghulyam River in Gorno-Badakhshan , Tajikistan . Together with Shugni, it is counted in a Shugni-Yazgulami subgroup of the south-east Iranian languages. Practically all speakers are bilingual and, in addition to Yazghulami, also spoke Tajik , which is close to Persian .
