The Democratic Ax ( Ukrainian Демократична Сокира Demokratyczna Sokyra , abbreviated: DS, D7 ) is a political party in Ukraine that was founded in 2018 and officially registered on May 22, 2019.

history

founding

The idea of founding the Democratic Horde party was announced in late April 2018. About 30 well-known bloggers (Yuriy Hudimenko, Ihor Bihdan), journalists (Viktor Trehubov, editor-in-chief of the website Peter and Mazepa ), Mykhail Makaruk (volunteer from Narodnyi Tyl and the InformNapalm community), business people (Bohdana Yarova, Pylyp Dukhliy), hackers ( nicknamed Sean Townsend and Jeoffrey Dahmer of the Ukrainian Cyber Alliance), ATO veterans (Alexander Zolotko, Anton Columbet, etc.), volunteers (Serg Marco, Yaroslav Matyushyn), programmers, writers and others gave statements on joining or in support of the Party off. In the summer of 2018, the party was renamed from the Democratic Horde to the Democratic Ax . The founders explained it with negative connotations that evoked the word horde in the name.

On August 4, 2018, the constituent assembly of the party took place in the Sviy v dosku inn, which was attended by 400 people. On December 27, 2018, documents for the party's official registration were presented to the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine. The Ministry of Justice officially added the party to the register of political parties on May 22, 2019.

Early parliamentary elections in 2019

On May 15, 2019, a partnership between the parties Syla Liudei , the Ukrainian Galician Party and the Democratic Ax was established to coordinate their work and advance democratic reforms.

On June 13, 2019, the Central Electoral Commission of Ukraine registered 10 candidates of the party for participation in the early parliamentary election . None of the candidates were successful, Anton Columbet and Mykyta Solovyov achieved the highest results with 4.3% and 3.4% respectively.

ideology

The party supports "the land market, the liberalization of gun laws, the consistent decriminalization of light drugs, the legalization of casinos and prostitution, and all other initiatives to maximize the liberation of a responsible citizen from the dictatorship of the socialist state". The party considers minimizing the influence of the state on the lives of citizens as the main focus of the ideology: abolition of the moratorium on land sales, full privatization , maximum deregulation . The Democratic Ax also sees itself as an opposition to President Zelensky .

activities

Even before registration, the party launched a campaign to support a bill to replace corporate tax with tax on deductible capital. The party also hosted a flash mob to block Web site blocking Bill No. 6688, which severely restricted internet freedom and the rights of providers.

By running a campaign in the media, social networks and street actions, the party succeeded in delaying the adoption of the Codex for the Gas Transport Act by the National Commission on State Regulation for Energy and Public Buildings by two months. According to the DA leadership, the planned changes to this codex could allow the regional gas companies associated with Dmytro Firtasch to carry out unapproved gas production for the oligarch.

On June 6, 2018, three representatives of the Democratic Ax of the Horde Association , which was established within the party - Maxim Dyzhechko, Tatiana Lokatska and Anatoliy Mazur - won the most votes in the elections to the public control body of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine.

In the 2019 elections to the public oversight body of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, sympathetic associations formed a coalition with the Veterans Movement of Ukraine and won 14 out of 15 seats.

Structure and leadership

Since its inception, the party has positioned itself without a charismatic leader. All important decisions are made by voting among the party leaders.

Party Chairman: Igor Shchedrin
Party Political Council: Yuriy Hudymenko, Anton Shvets, Viktor Trehubov

financing

According to the founders of the party, crowdfunding is one of the main sources of funding. The party regularly publishes expense and profit and loss accounts.

criticism

  • After the “veterans of the WoW campaign”, Russian media accused the party of disrespecting those killed in World War II .
  • A number of Ukrainian media outlets and public activists blame the party for its relations with the presidential administration of Petro Poroshenko and some members of the political work party with former deputy of parliament Yuri Ivanyushchenko and the advisor to President Poroshenko Yuri Biryukov. The party confirms the last thesis and refutes the previous one.
