particularities | Bronze Age burial mound |
The yding skovhøj is officially the highest point in Denmark , southwest of Skanderborg and south of Mossø .
However, it only reaches the height of 172.35 meters due to a burial mound from the Bronze Age on the dome. The natural height without this burial mound is 170.77 meters. Without taking the burial mound into account, it is the second highest natural elevation in Denmark after Møllehøj , which is nine centimeters higher at 170.86 meters.
The hill is located in the eponymous Yding forest in the southern area of the Horsens municipality , or until the municipal reform of 2007 in the Gedved municipality . The highest point is the middle of three burial mounds. Another burial mound to the east measures 171.73 m and a west 171.41 m height, both even higher than Møllehøj , the highest natural elevation in Denmark.
