action
The celebrated opera singer Song Danping falls in love with Xia, the beautiful daughter of a warlord. To stop the liaison between the two, Danping is attacked with acid by her father's henchmen, so that his face is disfigured beyond recognition. In order to spare his lover the terrible sight, he lets the rumor spread that he has died and spends his days from now on in a secluded part of the local village theater. On the nights of the full moon, he sings love songs for Xia, who has lost her mind because of the grief over her loss, in the cover of darkness.
Ten years later, a new acting company finally came to town. The actor Sun Xiao-au looks very similar to the young Danping. This gives Danping an idea how to end the suffering of his former lover.
