Yezda Urfa is an American progressive rock group.

history

Yezda Urfa was founded in 1973 and existed in its classic line-up (Rodenbaugh, Tippins, Kimbrough, Miller, Christoff) until the beginning of 1981.

Probably due to the declining interest in progressive rock music at the end of the 1970s, Yezda Urfa were never signed and so did not get beyond two demo albums: Boris (recorded 1975/1976, published 2002) and the much better-produced Sacred Baboon (recorded 1976 , published 1989).

As part of the late release of Boris in 2002 and the offer to the band to play live at the American prog festival " NEARfest " in 2004, Yezda Urfa reunited in 2003. Singer Rick Rodenbaugh died on March 5, 2008.

style

Yezda Urfa based themselves musically on British progressive rock groups such as Yes , King Crimson and Gentle Giant , but created a very independent style: Rapid changes in tempo and riff as well as nonsense lyrics dominated the band's music. Singer Rick Rodenbaugh was vocally comparable to Yes singer Jon Anderson .

Others

  • The name of the band is a fantasy product: It is made up of the city names " Yazd " ( Iran ) and " Urfa " ( Turkey ).
  • The band used unusual sound effects on their recordings: For example, a loud cough from all band members masks a mistake in the acoustic guitar on Sacred Baboon .
  • Some pieces by Yezda Urfa can be found on both Boris and Sacred Baboon . However, the versions differ greatly in composition, arrangement and instrumentation.
