Yi Bok-nam (born June 28, 1555 , † August 16, 1597 ) was a Korean military leader, politician and admiral, poet during the Joseon Dynasty .

Life

In 1588, Yi Bok-nam passed the Gwageo , the state examination for Korean civil servants and the military.

He is known for his victories in the battles of Woongchi and Ahndeokwon in 1592. Between 1594/1595 and 1597 he commanded the Jeolla-do army during the Imjin War . He was killed in the Battle of Namwon in 1597. The royal court bestowed several honorary degrees on him, including the posthumous title of Chungjanggong (Duke of the Brave), admission as Seonmu Wonjong Gongsin, and posthumously the post of Jwachanseong (Vice Prime Minister).
