Late Neolithic cultures in Taiwan

The Yingpu culture (Chinese 營 埔 文化) was a late Neolithic culture (approx. 3500–2000 BP) on the west coast of Taiwan . Its main distribution area was in Taichung City , Changhua County and Nantou County , especially in the central areas of the Zhuoshui , Dadu and Dajia Rivers .

The type locality is located near the village of Yingpu in the Dadu district of Taichung and was discovered in 1943 by the Japanese archaeologist Kokubu Naoichi (国 分 直 一). Material remains of this culture could also be documented in numerous other sites such as Shuitiliao (水底寮), Tamalin (大馬 璘), and Tapingting (大坪 頂). Mainly it is about black and red painted ceramics.
