Yiorgos Fakanas
Yiorgos Fakanas ( Greek Γιώργος Φακανάς Giorgos Fanakas ) is a Greek jazz and fusion bassist and composer.
Life
Fakanas was a member of the European big band EuroJazz from 1981 to 1984 . In 1984 he was one of the founding members of Iskra , one of the first fusion groups in Greece, with whom he toured Greece and all of Europe in the following years. His first albums A New Day and Parastasis appeared .
In 1988 he recorded the album Horizon with his own compositions for big band with Greek and international guests . In 1992 the album Amorosa was created with compositions for jazz sextet and symphony orchestra. The following year, "Topazi and Dizzy - Miles , two compositions by Samaras" for string and jazz orchestras, were premiered at Megaro Mousikis , conducted by Alkis Baltas .
Together with Periklis Koukos he composed the music for the piece Fantasy & Fouga - Dimitris Mitropoulos , which was premiered in 1996 with the singer Maria Farantouri in Megaro Mousikis. For the State Orchestra of Greek Music he composed the pieces Echoes and Eastern of New Land (premiered in 2000) on behalf of its musical director Stavros Xarchakos .
After teaching electric bass and theory of contemporary music at various conservatories since 1984, he founded the Art Music School - Y. Fakanas in 1997 . In 2003 he appeared in Athens with Mike Stern and recorded the album Cantabile with him . Between 2004 and 2007 he was artistic director of the Athini live concert series , in which musicians such as Allan Holdsworth , Mike Stern, Scott Henderson , Frank Gambale , Steve Smith , Dave Weckl , Dennis Chambers , Victor Wooten , Biréli Lagrène , Pat Martino , Buster Williams , Lenny White , John Abercrombie , Larry Coryell , John Patitucci , Alan Pasqua , Billy Cobham , Joe Zawinul and Steve Gadd appeared.
In 2004 he released the album Echoes with Wallace Roney , in 2005 he recorded the album Domino (with Dave Weckl, Mike Stern, Brett Garsed , Bob Franceschini and Christos Raphaelidis ), the next year following on from Stand-Art (1995) the album Stand- Art 2 with jazz standards in new arrangements.
In 2007 he recorded an album with Vassilis Rakopoulos and Lenny White and gave concerts with his own band and guests such as Mike Stern, Bob Franceschini, Barry Finerty , Mitch Forman , Brett Garsed , Yiorgos Trandalidis , Nikos Touliatos and Christos Rafalides .
