Yleana Bautista

Yleana Bautista de la Torre (also: Ileana Bautista ; born July 31, 1947 in Havana ) is a Cuban pianist and music teacher.

Bautista studied at the Conservatorio Internacional , at the Escuela Nacional de Arte with Cecilio Tieles Ferrer and from 1973 to 1976 at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Kiev. She made her professional debut as a pianist in 1976 at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes . She then gave solo recitals and performed as a concert pianist in Latin America, the USA and Europe.

She worked with the violinists Viera Borísova and Nancy Usher , the pianists Jorge Luis Prats and César López and the flautist Andrea Griminolli as a chamber musician and participated in the performance of a cycle of works by Johann Sebastian Bach under the direction of Leo Brouwer . Her repertoire includes works by Alberto Ginastera , Manuel Saumell , Ignacio Cervantes , Robert Schumann and Sergei Prokofiew .

From 1970, Bautista led piano classes at the Conservatorio Amadeo Roldán , the Conservatorio Alejandro García Caturla and at the music faculty of the Instituto Superior de Arte . Since 1995 she has been the director of piano studies at the Escuela Superior de Música del INBA in Mexico City. Her students here included Rodolfo Ritter and Rosa de Jesús Mandaluniz . On CD she recorded Olivier Messiaens Réveil des oiseaux for piano and orchestra under the direction of Joel Thome , Sergei Rachmaninoff's Third Piano Concerto under the direction of Gonzalo Romeu and Bach's D minor harpsichord concerto under the direction of Leo Brouwer.
