Jorge Luis Prats

Jorge Luis Prats Soca (born July 3, 1956 in Camagüey ) is a Cuban pianist.

Prats studied in Cuba with Cesar Perez Sentenar , Barbara Dìaz Alea , Margot Rojas Mendoza and Alfredo Diez . He continued his studies as a scholarship holder at the Moscow Conservatory with Rudolf Kehrer and at the Paris Conservatory , was a student of Paul Badura-Skoda at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and of Magda Tagliaferro in Paris and attended Witold Małcużyński's master class in Warsaw . In 1977 he won the Grand Prix at the Marguerite Long Jacques Thibaud Piano Competition in Paris.

As a concert pianist, Prats has toured throughout Europe, North, Central and South America, China, Japan and Korea and has performed with renowned orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra , the BBC Symphony Orchestra , the Orquesta Sinfónica de la Juventud Venezolana Simón Bolívar , the Prague Symphoniker and the orchestra of the Berlin State Opera .

Prats' repertoire includes works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Ludwig van Beethoven , Johannes Brahms , piano concertos by Sergei Rachmaninov , Sergei Prokofiev , Maurice Ravel , Camille Saint-Saëns , Franz Liszt , Edvard Grieg , Robert Schumann , Peter Tschaikowski , Alexander Scriabin , Ernst von Dohnányi , Henry Litolff and Frédéric Chopin , continue to works of Johann Sebastian Bach (well-Tempered Clavier, suites and partitas), the sonatas, Ezüden and Hungarian Rhapsodies of Franz Liszt, Gaspard de la Nuit by Maurice Ravel and compositions of Claude Debussy and Heitor Villa-Lobos ' , as well as piano works by Cuban composers from the 18th century to the present such as Manuel Saumell and Ignacio Cervantes , Ernesto Lecuona , Carlos Fariñas and Harold Gramatges .

Prats recorded etudes by Scriabin, works by Beethoven, Grieg and Chopin's piano concertos, the piano works of Rachmaninoff and many works by Cuban composers on CD. He has taught as a visiting professor at universities in Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Canada and Spain and has participated as a juror or president in international piano competitions. From 1985 to 2004 he was artistic director and solo pianist of the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Cuba .
