Yooka-Laylee is a Jump 'n' Run - computer game , which of Play Tonic Games developed and in April 2017 Team17 for Linux , macOS , Microsoft Windows , PlayStation 4 and Xbox One was released. In December of the same year, a version for Nintendo Switch was released . The protagonists of the game are the chameleon Yooka and a bat named Laylee .

development

To finance the game, development studio Playtonic launched a campaign on Kickstarter.com in which they planned to raise £ 175,000. Ultimately, the campaign was successfully completed and the studio ended up taking in £ 2.1 million. After the game is released, all backers should receive a free DLC.

In March 2017, Playtonic stated that the opponents of the US YouTuber Jon "JonTron" Jafari would not be used because he had made racist comments on a live Twitch stream.

The game is a spiritual successor to the Banjo Kazooie series .

Grant Kirkhope, who also composed the music for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle , created the score for the game. A version for Kickstarter supporters and two CD versions were released. A variant of this was also released on LP and as a digital download.

On October 8, 2019, a successor was released with Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair .

Yooka-Laylee received a mediocre reception from the trade press . On the rating website Metacritic , the Nintendo Switch version of the game, based on 21 ratings, has a Metascore of 75 out of a total of 100 possible points. The PC version 73 out of 100 points, the X-Box-One version also 73 out of 100 points and the PS4 version 68 out of 100 points.
