Imagawa Yoshimoto

Imagawa Yoshimoto ( Japanese 今 川 義 元 ; * 1519 ; † June 12, 1560 ) is a daimyo of the middle Sengoku period and was the feudal warlord who ruled the provinces of Suruga , Tōtōmi and Mikawa .

In 1537 he married Takeda Shingen's half-sister to make peace with the Takeda (clan) to the north of his lands. Yoshimoto's daughter was later married off to Shingen's son Yoshinobu .

His son was Imagawa Ujizane , who later (towards the end of the Sengoku period ) by marrying the eldest daughter of Hōjō Ujitane established the three- pact between the Imagawa , Takeda and later Hōjō and thus countered the advance of the unified Oda Nobunaga and his allies.

He died in the Battle of Okehazama , and his son Imagawa Ujizane was no longer able to avert the downfall of the Imagawa .
