You're My Best Friend is a song by British rock band Queen , written by bassist John Deacon . It was recorded for the album A Night at the Opera in 1975 and released as a single (B-side: '39 ) in 1976 . The song also appeared on the live album Live Killers in 1979 and on the compilation album Greatest Hits in 1981 .
admission
Deacon wrote the song for his wife Veronica Tetzlaff. In the studio recording he plays a Wurlitzer electric piano next to the electric bass , the typical sound of which characterizes the song. When performing live, Freddie Mercury used a grand piano instead of the electric piano. The pop ballad is written in C major and uses a moderate 4/4 time.

Queen about the song
In a live interview with Tom Browne on BBC Radio 1 on December 24, 1977 , the band gave information on using the electric piano for recording:
“Well, Freddie didn't like the electric piano, so I took it home and started learning it. Basically, it's the song that came about when I learned to play the piano. It was written on this instrument and it sounds best on it ... "
“I refused to play the damn thing (the Wurlitzer electric piano). It's tiny and horrible and I don't like it. Why play things like that when you have a beautiful grand piano? No, I think basically what he [John] was trying to say was that it was the desired effect. "
