Yousef Gamal El-Din ( Arabic يوسف جمال الدين, DMG Yūsuf Ǧamāl ad-Dīn ; born October 15, 1985 ) is an entrepreneur and author with Egyptian-Swiss origins. Since 2016 he has been a presenter on Bloomberg Daybreak: Middle East . for the Bloomberg Television news group. Prior to that, he worked for CNBC , establishing himself as the presenter of the television program CNBC's Access: Middle East worldwide . He became the channel's regional correspondent in Dubai. Previously, Gamal El-Din was a co-host of the CNBC television program Capital Connection and worked for the station in its studios in the Middle East.

biography

Gamal El-Din graduated from the American University in Cairo in 2007 with a degree in journalism and mass communication with highest honors. He also received a master's degree in the same field. In addition to his astounding academic achievements, he was also awarded the prestigious Ahmed Zewail Prize for outstanding achievements in the humanities and natural sciences.

Gamal El-Din describes himself as a “car enthusiast” on his Twitter page and was often seen on the Bahrain International Circuit in the past .

Career

After a brief stint behind the camera as a scriptwriter at OTV, Yousef Gamal El-Din joined Nile TV in 2007 as an English speaking presenter and reporter. He made his debut on July 17, 2007 with "Top Stories", after which he regularly presented the hourly news live from Cairo. He covered major events across Egypt and interviewed a long line of prominent ministers, activists and experts. He also reported on Wikimania 2008 and interviewed Jimmy Wales for Egyptian TV. In July 2008, he took over responsibility for the political program News Hour, which aired every two weeks. In September of the same year, Gamal El-Din began hosting the new Business World program. He also made several guest appearances on Yas3ad Saba7ak on Channel 2.

CNBC

Gamal El-Din joined CNBC in June 2010 and became the first presenter based in the newly opened Bahraini branch, run under the auspices of CNBC Europe . On June 4, 2010, he became the third co-host of Capital Connection, joining Anna Edwards in London and Chloe Cho in Singapore. To this day, he is one of the youngest up-and-coming talents to join the station.

During the 2011 Egyptian Revolution, CNBC gave extensive coverage of the riots and violence. Youssef Gamal El-Din reported live for the broadcaster and for MSNBC at the height of the protests in Tahrir Square . He was overheard "urging protesters to leave him alone so he could report." News anchors told him to take care of himself minutes before the Battle of the Camel began . CNBC described him as a journalist who reported "under the most difficult conditions".

Gamal El-Din has traveled back to Cairo several times since the beginning of the revolution to report on the protests there and to interview the Egyptian interim Prime Minister Essam Sharaf , just hours before the " Friday of Resolve " demonstrations on July 8th took place. He also covered the Bahrain protests, the 2011 protests in Jordan, and the 2011 parliamentary elections in Turkey.

On July 4, 2012, Gamal El-Din presented Access: Middle East, a prime-time series with insights into regional economic and corporate developments for the first time. The show hosted several billionaires, including Guler Sabancı.

In addition to daily programming, Gamal El-Din is often represented at summit events such as the World Economic Forum and moderated sessions at events such as the Abu Dhabi Media Summit and the DIFC Forum.

On March 10, 2015, Gamal El-Din announced his resignation on Twitter, citing that after 5 years at CNBC, he “wanted to pursue new opportunities” without going into detail about his reasons. Almost 6 months later, on August 2nd, 2015, he announced the launch of Medialitera , a media consultancy based in Dubai.

Bloomberg

After joining Bloomberg Television in 2016, Gamal El-Din awarded the group's new flagship, the DIFC program's Daybreak Middle East in Dubai - and thus successfully doubled the regional output.
