“The interdisciplinary, often cooperative projects of the French artist of Algerian origin Youssef Tabti revolve around social processes. Born in Paris in 1968, he studied art history and visual arts there and has lived in Hamburg since 1996. In his cross-media works, shaped by his own multicultural origins, which include sound, space and video installations, photography, texts and performative actions, he uses research methods of mapping, documentation and archiving for critical analysis and reflection on history (n) in geopolitical, post-colonial and other societal upheaval situations. The artist has realized more than 70 exhibitions in more than 20 countries internationally, including 2007 as part of the Istanbul Biennale, 2009 on the occasion of the 2nd Triennale at the Grand Palais Paris, and 2010 in Murcia, where he took part in the parallel program of the European traveling biennial Manifesta 8.
